How it works

The mechanics, in order

Everything here is how GreetSpark actually behaves, not what it is advertised as. If you have one specific question, the questions page is probably faster.

Sending a card

Pick an occasion, an animation and an envelope, write the message, and see the finished card before paying for anything. The recipient gets a link. They do not need an app or an account, and the card opens in any browser.

You are emailed when they open it — not when it is delivered, when it is actually opened, with the time. Opening your own card does not count as an open.

What a card can carry

  • A photograph.
  • A recorded voice note, up to 60 seconds.
  • A soundtrack from 101 tracks. New cards start silent; music is only added if you choose it.
  • An RSVP question, and replies come back to your inbox.

NFC tags and QR codes

Every card has a second address, /nfc/, made for a tap or a scan rather than an inbox. On the send step choose "NFC tag or printed QR code" and no email is sent at all: you get the link and a QR code with a transparent background, as PNG and SVG, on screen and by email. Write the link to any NFC sticker with a free app (NFC Tools on iPhone or Android, choose URL) and stick it on the gift, the box, the menu, the room key; or print the code on anything. One tap or scan and the card tears open on their phone.

  • On every plan, and it costs the same one Spark as any card — it is the same card, and the tag is only how it reaches them.
  • A Spark spent is a card without our mark, here as everywhere. A free Spark carries the small GreetSpark mark on the card and the video.
  • Paid cards give the person who taps a thank-you video, the card as a 1080x1920 clip for TikTok or Reels, with your name on it.
  • Taps and scans count as opens, and are shown separately on your card page.
  • Emailed cards get the NFC link and the QR code too, on the card page, so a birthday card can go on the present as well as in the inbox.
  • For a list: upload a spreadsheet of names on the bulk page and choose to hand them over. Every row becomes its own card with its own code, and the batch comes back as a zip — links file, a transparent QR each, and an A4 sheet with the names under the codes. No email addresses needed.

Scheduling

Any card can be scheduled to arrive up to a year ahead. Write it now, set the date and their time zone, and nothing more is needed from you. The time you pick is their local time: 6 am on the day means 6 am where they wake up, whatever the clock says where you are. Every plan, including the free one.

Sparks, the free tier and allowances

One Spark is one card that tears open on their phone: the envelope, your words, a photo, a voice note, the music, and an email to you when it is opened. Every plan is counted in Sparks.

  • The free tier is 3 Sparks a month, every month, with a small GreetSpark mark on the card and the video.
  • When the free allowance runs out you can still make cards — you get the link to share yourself, we just do not email it for you. NFC links and QR codes are never counted.
  • Sparks from a bundle last twelve months and never expire while a subscription is active.
  • Unlimited Joy has a fair-use ceiling of 300 cards a month. Reaching it adds another 300 in one click, at no cost. It exists so nobody runs a mailing list through the word unlimited.

Business and colleagues

Business is $39.00 a month for up to 500 Sparks a month — one Spark is one personally addressed card.

  • It includes 2 seats besides your own. Colleagues send from their own addresses using the same allowance and the same Sparks.
  • A colleague must be at a domain you have verified. That is what keeps a plan with one company.
  • They never see billing, receipts or a card number, and cannot change or cancel the plan.
  • You can take a seat back at any time. Everything they have sent stays sent and every link keeps working.
  • The 500 a month is the quantity the plan is sold with, so it does not top itself up. If a month needs more, ask us.

Sending in bulk

Upload a CSV with four columns: name, email, message and send_on.

  • Only the email is required.
  • A blank message uses the one you write on screen; {name} in it becomes theirs.
  • send_on must be written year first — 2026-04-03, or 2026-04-03 08:30. A date like 03/04/2026 is refused rather than guessed, because it means two different days depending on where you are. A date already past is refused too.
  • Blank send_on means it goes when you press send.
  • The picture, the voice note and the soundtrack are chosen once on screen and apply to the whole batch.
  • Duplicates and undeliverable addresses are dropped and listed back to you.

Sending from your own domain

On Business, cards can arrive from cards@yourdomain.com instead of from us.

  • Add the domain in your account and publish the DNS records shown there.
  • The records point at Brevo, the service that delivers our mail. That is how domain signing works everywhere; it is what lets a card be provably from you.
  • It switches itself on when the records are found, usually within the hour. We check twice a day and email you when it is live.
  • Until then your cards keep sending from our address. Nothing is paused.

Your account

Sign in at https://www.greetspark.co/account with a link we email you. There is no password. The account page shows what you have sent, who opened it, your allowance, your receipts, and any draft you left unfinished.

Refunds and canceling

A subscription can be canceled from the account page at any time and you keep it until the end of the period you have paid for. The refunds policy is at https://www.greetspark.co/legal/refunds.

Something not covered?

The help chat in the corner reads every page on this site and hands anything it cannot answer to a person. Or write to us — we answer, usually the same day.
